Notice: Latest Updates on the Closure of Haohan Slope and Related Measures (Sep. 20, 2024)
1. Why Haohan Slope is Closed?
The concrete slope stabilization structure at Haohan Slope was observed to have shifted outward in June 2024, increasing the risk of falling rocks. To safeguard pedestrians, Haohan Slope has been temporarily closed for assessment, maintenance, and the development of a comprehensive stabilization plan.
2. Current Measures (Lighting enhanced on September 13)
The entrances to Haohan Slope below Zih Ciang Dormitory No. 5 have been closed. Individuals requiring access to the Zih Ciang dormitories or the Downhill Campus are advised to utilize the following alternative routes to and from the dormitory area:
The elevator at the International Building: 10-15 minute walk.
The stairs in the International Building: 10-15 minute walk.
Mountain Circle 2: 12-15 minute walk to Haohan Slope bus stop.
※Time varies based on walking speed.
3. Future Plans
To ensure stability around Haohan Slope, inclinometers have been installed on the surrounding slopes. These devices will be used to monitor and inspect the stability of the slopes on a monthly basis until November 2024. In addition to the installation and monitoring of inclinometers, a further slope stabilization and engineering plan will be developed based on the inspection results. Given the substantial weight of the existing concrete retaining walls, the feasibility of demolishing the current concrete slope stabilization structure and replacing it with a stainless steel guardrail is being considered. Haohan Slope will remain closed throughout the construction period, with the duration of the closure to be announced by the Office of General Affairs at a later date.
4. Updated Bus Schedule
Campus bus services will be enhanced starting September 9, 2024. Weekday service frequency will be increased with seven additional departures. The revised schedule is as follows:
Route 2 (Administrative Building to Sixth Stadium): One additional departure at 14:50.
Route 3 (Administrative Building to Hillside Learning Lodge): Six additional departures at 10:10, 11:10, 13:10, 14:10, 15:10, and 17:10.
5. Enhanced cleaning and maintenance of the alternative staircase behind the International Building
Since this area was adjacent to a forested slope, it was prone to moss growth and leaf accumulation. After trimming and clearing the brush and trees on both sides of the area, the stairs were pressure-washed to remove mud, sand, and moss, reducing the buildup of leaves and the potential for slippery moss.
Please follow safety guidelines and use alternate routes during the construction period. We appreciate your cooperation.
